Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity Vs. Giants

What would you do if someone who is big like a giant appears in front of you and starting devouring humans? What would you feel? What things that come into your mind first? How will you react with it?

Hajime Isayama, a Japanese manga writer wrote this Japanese manga series Shingeki no Kyojin in english translation, Attack on Titan. This manga tells a story about hundred years ago, giant humanoid creatures called Titans exist. They were designed to devour humans, with this humanity was forced to retreat into a system of concentric walls known as, Wall Maria the outer most, Wall Rose the middle, and Wall Sina the innermost.

Inside this wall, humanity were safe from human devouring titans for one hundred years, but a sudden attack from a 60-meter Titan and a smaller titan covered in armor plates caused the outermost wall to breached, forcing mankind to abandon the land between Wall Maria and Wall Rose for them to survive this tragic incident.

Humanity lack of information about the Titans makes them the victims in every battle. Titans were giant creatures ranging from 3-15 meters tall, which instinctively attack and devour ordinary humans on sight.

However, they do not require meat as their bodies nutrients, as they do not prey on other animals except on humans. They have hard skin and can regenerate immediately and can only be killed by a deep cut at the base of the neck.

With this weakness, humanity developed this Maneuver Gear, allowing them to navigate quickly on three-dimensional space. It requires extensive physical condition and agility for a user.

Also, this series follows the story of Eren Yeager, with his adoptive sister, Mikasa Ackerman and their friend, Armin Arlert. Eren, with his young age saw how his mother was eaten by a titan and from this he vowed that he will join the Survey Corps and promised to kill every single titan.

Years later during his first battle with titans, Eren discovers that he has the ability to transform into a titan at will. He then both seen as a threat to mankind and also a hope for humanity.

Eren joins with his companions in their desperate fight, uncovering the mysterious existence of Titans as well as himself.

The walls in this manga is said to be influenced by the Japanese culture as due to their people being very isolated and enclosed. And the people's inner feelings is the series' main influences.

People who have watched this were amazed by this anime series. They added that, they learned many values in life by watching this anime.

"Lahat tayo, kailangan nating pahalagahan ang mga taong mahal natin. Gawin ang lahat para lang maprotektahan sila." - Dan Dumindin, a friend of mine who finished watching Shingeki no Kyojin

"Ang values na natutunan ko dito eh kahit ano pa ang katayuan mo sa buhay huwag kang susuko at hindi lahat ng nakakataas ay kaya yung mga bagay na nagagawa ng mababa." El Briones, a student of TUP.

"Kailangan magsakripisyo para makamit yung goal mo sa buhay. Pag pumili ka ng isang desisyon dapat hindi mo to pagsisihan." Gervi Custodio, a 4th year student of Cebu Technological University.

Behind those fake masks

It is disappointing to hear that most of our legislators, who we voted to lead us through prosperity, the one who we trusted the most, who promised us for a good life, broke their promises and leave us behind.

Billions, such a big money. With that, they could have build new schools, provide new textbooks, classrooms, and many of our children would have been in schools right now. They could have give new jobs to those Filipinos who does not finished their schools.

It is hard to see that many of our people suffers because of their bad doings. Many of them can't afford to buy some food. They don't even have their own shelter.

"Youth is the nation's hope," they said. But how can they be our hope if they don't even know how to write, to read. A leader should be the one who will guide his people to success but it is not what I see.
