Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity Vs. Giants

What would you do if someone who is big like a giant appears in front of you and starting devouring humans? What would you feel? What things that come into your mind first? How will you react with it?

Hajime Isayama, a Japanese manga writer wrote this Japanese manga series Shingeki no Kyojin in english translation, Attack on Titan. This manga tells a story about hundred years ago, giant humanoid creatures called Titans exist. They were designed to devour humans, with this humanity was forced to retreat into a system of concentric walls known as, Wall Maria the outer most, Wall Rose the middle, and Wall Sina the innermost.

Inside this wall, humanity were safe from human devouring titans for one hundred years, but a sudden attack from a 60-meter Titan and a smaller titan covered in armor plates caused the outermost wall to breached, forcing mankind to abandon the land between Wall Maria and Wall Rose for them to survive this tragic incident.

Humanity lack of information about the Titans makes them the victims in every battle. Titans were giant creatures ranging from 3-15 meters tall, which instinctively attack and devour ordinary humans on sight.

However, they do not require meat as their bodies nutrients, as they do not prey on other animals except on humans. They have hard skin and can regenerate immediately and can only be killed by a deep cut at the base of the neck.

With this weakness, humanity developed this Maneuver Gear, allowing them to navigate quickly on three-dimensional space. It requires extensive physical condition and agility for a user.

Also, this series follows the story of Eren Yeager, with his adoptive sister, Mikasa Ackerman and their friend, Armin Arlert. Eren, with his young age saw how his mother was eaten by a titan and from this he vowed that he will join the Survey Corps and promised to kill every single titan.

Years later during his first battle with titans, Eren discovers that he has the ability to transform into a titan at will. He then both seen as a threat to mankind and also a hope for humanity.

Eren joins with his companions in their desperate fight, uncovering the mysterious existence of Titans as well as himself.

The walls in this manga is said to be influenced by the Japanese culture as due to their people being very isolated and enclosed. And the people's inner feelings is the series' main influences.

People who have watched this were amazed by this anime series. They added that, they learned many values in life by watching this anime.

"Lahat tayo, kailangan nating pahalagahan ang mga taong mahal natin. Gawin ang lahat para lang maprotektahan sila." - Dan Dumindin, a friend of mine who finished watching Shingeki no Kyojin

"Ang values na natutunan ko dito eh kahit ano pa ang katayuan mo sa buhay huwag kang susuko at hindi lahat ng nakakataas ay kaya yung mga bagay na nagagawa ng mababa." El Briones, a student of TUP.

"Kailangan magsakripisyo para makamit yung goal mo sa buhay. Pag pumili ka ng isang desisyon dapat hindi mo to pagsisihan." Gervi Custodio, a 4th year student of Cebu Technological University.

Behind those fake masks

It is disappointing to hear that most of our legislators, who we voted to lead us through prosperity, the one who we trusted the most, who promised us for a good life, broke their promises and leave us behind.

Billions, such a big money. With that, they could have build new schools, provide new textbooks, classrooms, and many of our children would have been in schools right now. They could have give new jobs to those Filipinos who does not finished their schools.

It is hard to see that many of our people suffers because of their bad doings. Many of them can't afford to buy some food. They don't even have their own shelter.

"Youth is the nation's hope," they said. But how can they be our hope if they don't even know how to write, to read. A leader should be the one who will guide his people to success but it is not what I see.

Pope Francis: First Jesuit Pope

Pope Francis, with his real name, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was appointed as the new Pope and the very first appointed pope from North or Latin America. He is also the very first appointed Jesuit Pope.

He was known as a simple pastor who is loved by his diocese, he travels with them underground and through buses during his 15 years of episcopal ministry. Because he more once said that, ''My people are poor and I am one of them'', he made a decision to live in an apartment and to cook his own food.

He always advised his priests to show some mercy and to keep their door open to those who are in need.

He was born in Buenos Ares on Decenber 17 year 1936, a son of Italian immigrants, Mario and Regina Sivori. His father was an accountant employed by the railways and his mother, a committed wife whose dedicated to raise their five children.

Moreover, Pope Francis graduated as a chemical technician but then chose the path of priesthood, entering the Diocesan Seminary of Villa Devoto. He also entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus on 11 of March 1958.

On 13 December 1969 he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Ramón José Castellano. He continued his training between 1970 and 1971 at the University of Alcalá de Henares, Spain, and on 22 April 1973 made his final profession with the Jesuits. Back in Argentina, he was novice master at Villa Barilari, San Miguel; professor at the Faculty of Theology of San Miguel; consultor to the Province of the Society of Jesus and also Rector of the Colegio Máximo of the Faculty of Philosophy and Theology.

All the while Cardinal Bergoglio was becoming ever more popular in Latin America. Despite this, he never relaxed his sober approach or his strict lifestyle, which some have defined as almost “ascetic”. In this spirit of poverty, he declined to be appointed as President of the Argentine Bishops’ Conference in 2002, but three years later he was elected and then, in 2008, reconfirmed for a further three-year mandate. Meanwhile in April 2005 he took part in the Conclave in which Pope Benedict XVI was elected.

Until the beginning of the recent sede vacante, he was a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, the Pontifical Council for the Family and the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.

He was elected Supreme Pontiff on 13 March 2013.

With his strict lifestyle, can he lead the Christianity to properity? Can he approve the new generation's lifestyle today and just go with the flow?

Lastly, can Filipinos learn to love him like the way he is loved by his diocese?

Clarissa Gempesaw confesses about her life

I got this privileged to interview one certain person. It was a good experience to practice my interviewing skill. I was assigned to interview Clarissa Gempesaw, and write it my blog.

Clarissa, a 3rd year student of Polytechnic University of the Philippines taking up Bachelor in Communication Research. She turned 20 last month. She live at Francisco Homes, San Jose Del Monte Bulacan. A Roman Catholic. Yes, she is single but she does have a boyfriend. It's no doubt Clarissa is pretty. She has this fierce eyes when you look at her. But she's also a sweet friend though.

I seldom talk to her in school. We're not that close actually. We just talk when some task are given to us and we're in the same group.

However, this were the things that I had interviewed from her. Her most scariest moment in her life were, she got home late from Star City. It was nearly 1 am in the morning, it happened the day we watched a ballet show in Aliw theater for our subject in humanities, February 17, 2013.

Also, the most silliest thing that she had done was when they were at the University of the Philippines for a conference. After that, they played truth or dare. Then she was dared to act like an epileptic person. That happened on February 17, she can't remember what year is it though.

She added the most naughtiest thing she had done, it was to kiss her boyfriend for the first time. While she was telling me this I can see it in her eyes that she was like 'kinikilig'. Well, it happened on February 2012.

The most disappointing moment in her life was when she failed her midterm exam in Biology. Well, if that happened to me I'll be disappointed too. But, we still have finals so she catch up with that and pass it.

''Niligawan niya ko.'' she told me that that was her happiest moment. I asked her if that courting happened person or in text. Because you know, many girls today were being suited in text. Unlike on the old times.. She answered that her boyfriend did it both in person and in text. That's good to her!

Lastly, she told me her goal after 5 years. She said,''Makagraduate. Maging work ko yung kung ano ang passion ko. Maging successful sa pipiliing career.''

They started as a black-and-white news weekly in 2001 to a bimonthly, full-colored magazine a year later, they shifted online in 2005, embracing the vast changes in the media landscape but still keeping true to the culture and brand if journalism that the audience have always associated with them.
